Guns and Roses
Morocco's annual Rose Festival brings out euphoric scents and old-fashioned artillery Kelaa M'Gouna's town centre is filled with festival-goers from near and far. Young boys wait in throngs to ride bumper cars or be jolted up and down on a 'Kangaru' ride that blares Bollywood music. Others buy lottery tickets to win prizes associated with the nation's beloved ritual of tea - plastic trays, carafes, gold-trimmed glasses or the coveted silver berrad (teapot). The surrounding dirt roads are lined with the parked vans of families who have driven in from the nearby cities of Errachidia or Agadir to enjoy the annual Rose Festival. Blissfully paralysed by the late afternoon's heat, they soak up the merriment from the comfort of their tents and folding chairs. Food stands, also largely manned by out-of-towners, serve everything from freshly squeezed orange juice to fried fish.
