Cela faisait depuis 1953 que Besançon était dirigé par des hommes de gauche. En 2020, Anne Vignot fut la première maire à prendre les rêne de la ville avec seulement 566 voix d'avance sur Ludovic Fagaut, celui qui, lors du deuxième tour le 22 mars 2026, l'a battu avec près de 2700 voix d'avance.

Besançon had been run by left-wing politicians since 1953. In 2020, Anne Vignot became the first female mayor to take the reins of the city, winning by a margin of just 566 votes over Ludovic Fagaut, who went on to defeat her in the second round on 22 March 2026 by a margin of nearly 2,700 votes.
