The Patrons Solidaires association organised its first event.
Stephane Ravaclay's battle was won on 14 January 2021. After his 10-day hunger strike, Laye Fodé Traore, the apprentice who works alongside him, was regularised.
Without this act of last resort Laye would surely have been sent back to his country.
When unaccompanied minors arrive in France, after journeys littered with tragedies, they are taken in charge and most of them follow a training course.
After the age of 18, their situation is turned upside down and many receive an OQTF (Obligation de Quitter le Territoire Français). This is a point on which the association "Patrons Solidaires", which was created following Laye's regularisation, is going to get involved by proposing a law.
This first event organised by Patrons Solidaire brought together Sarah Durieux, director of Change.org, the platform on which the petition for Laye collected more than 240,000 signatures, Patricia Hyvernet, also a baker and hunger striker, who obtained the regularisation of Yaya, Stéphane Ravacley and Laye Fodé Traore.
The exchanges will last almost an hour and a half.
Sarah Durieux will take the floor to explain how the platform works, the role of the Change.org teams and what they have done in particular to ensure the follow-up and success of the petition for Laye's regularisation. Sarah reminded us of the importance of making the struggles visible, through different means, in order to make them succeed.
Stéphane and Patricia spoke about their vision of the future, their hunger strike, the relationship they have with these young migrants, the importance of changing mentalities towards these people who have fled misery and experienced many traumas, and the battles they will lead via their association "Patrons Solidaires" in relation to those who are already fighting on this subject.
During the evening, Thierry Lebeaupin, activist, will speak:
-Thierry Lebeaupin, an active activist in various groups helping migrants, including the SolMiRé association and the CDDLE.
-Fabienne Nador, vice-president of the Abakar Committee
- Marie-Pierre Barrière, from Réseaux Éducation Sans Frontières in Châlons-en-Champagne.
- Hafida El Mokhtari president of the association Tente Beauté Mobile.
The conference was presented and coordinated by Corentin Germaneau who has been following Stéphane and Laye since the beginning of their media coverage and who keeps the association Le Cercle alive.
