Hotel Montel by Alexandre Bagdassarian and Antoine Boureau
Faced with the inaction of the public authorities, who have been warned again and again, and the cold that kills, solidarity took over. Around forty supporters accompanied the families on Friday January 12 in Lyon's 9th arrondissement. The temporary Montel school, still warm but emptied of students and desk over the past few days, has just been transformed into a shelter. A total of 112 people, including 64 children, are being sheltered for a period that the Jamais Sans Toit collective, which initiated the action, hopes will be as short as possible. In fact, this location is not suitable for the reception of families. It has no kitchen and only one shower. This transitional solution is better than the street, until the families are integrated into the legal circuit.
Lyon-based photographers Alexandre Bagdassarian and Antoine Boureau offered the Jamais Sans Toit collective the opportunity to set up a photographic studio in the school's donation room, offering a different image of families in extreme precariousness, and enabling us to look beyond the emergency to questions of hospitality and dignity.
