In 2019, Toulouse Métropole was selected by the European Commission as part of the LIFE program for the environment and the climate. The winning project, based on experimentation and scientific partnerships, concerns the revegetation of the northern part of Ramier Island. More generally, the LIFE Green Heart project (Generate REsiliENt actions against the HEat islAnd effect on uRban Territories) aims to create a green lung on the island of Ramier, within the framework of the Grand Parc Garonne. The park extends over 32 km and concerns 7 municipalities, aims to reclaim the banks of the river, to make the Garonne the unifying link of the Metropolis. The transformation of Île du Ramier into a vast urban park is one of the three components of the project.
