FRANCE - FESTIVAL FLAMENCO NIMES 2024 - DAVID CORIA - LOS BAILES ROBADOS
FRANCE - FLAMENCO NIMES FESTIVAL 2024 - DAVID CORIA - LOS BAILES ROBADOS
After conquering the Odéon in 2023 with his work in progress, the choreographer returns to present the culmination of his work. Strasbourg, 1518: a woman starts dancing for no apparent reason, night and day, without stopping. Citizens join her, shaking their bodies relentlessly to extremes, even death. David Coria, a key artist of the 21 st century flamenco avant-garde, draws on the facts and legends surrounding this event to create a piece somewhere between "performance and exorcism". Surrounded by the best of today's Andalusian scene, including the Lagos brothers and the O'Ryan twins, he boldly and resolutely explores the relationship between dance and freedom. On stage, the dancers move from the hysteria of frenetic movement to immobile strength, like masses connected to a single soul. A blend of traditional Spanish dance, flamenco, theatricality, spontaneity and harmony, Los Bailes Robados (the stolen dances) is a choral creation of rare power.
