Des aigles et des icônes
A Beinwil, dans le canton de Soleure de la Suisse, se trouve une vieille abbaye, datant du 11ième siècle. Habité pendant des différentes confréries monastiques catholiques au cours des siècles, l'abbaye devient déserte suite un incendie en 1978.
Après plusieurs décennies de restauration, une confrérie chrétienne orthodoxe s'y installe en 2019. Y habitent aujourd'hui neuf moines, dont deux moniales, de nationalités diverses : Russe, Slovène, Géorgienne, Roumaine, Isrëlie, Allemande, Suisse...
Ces images illustrent leurs vies quotidienne et religieuse qui s'entre-mêlent, durant la période spéciale du Noël orthodoxe, qui a lieu le 6 janvier d'après le calendrier Grégorien.
Eagles and Icons
In Beinwil, in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland, there is an old abbey dating back to the 11th century. Inhabited by various Catholic monastic orders over the centuries, the abbey became deserted following a fire in 1978.
After several decades of restoration, an Orthodox Christian brotherhood settled there in 2019. Today, nine monks, including two nuns, of various nationalities live there: Russian, Slovenian, Georgian, Romanian, Israeli, German, Swiss...
These images illustrate their daily and religious lives, intertwined, during the special period of Orthodox Christmas, which takes place on January 6th according to the Gregorian calendar.
