PERIUBAN SPACE, ENTRACTE
Peri-urbanization refers to the process of extending urban agglomerations in their periphery, leading to a transformation of rural areas.
According to Marc Augé, interchangeable spaces where the human being remains anonymous, such as means of transport, supermarkets, large hotel chains, or airports are "Non-places".
In this series, large-area car parks on city borders are treated as "non-places".
Car parks are authoritative places, where everything is thought out and arranged for the visibility of a brand. Places where the client's journey is traced, dictated and marked out.
With no cars present, the parking lot is emptied of its functions. The disappearance of messages to "customers" gives way to an even greater void where silent architectures and serial shopping carts face an abnormal void.
The portrayals of characters in stereotypical leisure or everyday life actions introduce a fiction, a strangeness and create a contrast with the inhospitable yet colourful setting. These situations point to the inhumanity of these places.
Like a series of photographs of anticipations, these images question our present landscape but also that of the future, as well as the place of the human being.
