Il est raisonnable de penser qu'une famille citadine consomme environ 60 à 70 kg de charbon de bois par mois, ce qui correspond à environ 2 sacs. Soit donc environ 110 000 tonnes par an pour la seule ville de Tananarive. Sur le terrain, cela se traduit par une déforestation d?environ 32 000 ha de forêt. On estime à environ 402 000 tonnes la consommation de charbon de bois sur la Grande île en 2012, soit environ 110 000 ha de forêt décimée..!
Environ 70% des besoins en charbon de bois de Tananarive sont couverts par les massifs de pins et d'eucalyptus d'Anjozorobe, Tiazompaniry, Majakandriana et Moramanga.

It is reasonable to think that a city family consumes approximately 60 to 70 kg of charcoal per month, which corresponds to approximately 2 bags.
