It has already claimed 17 lives and been contracted by hundreds of people, mostly in China but also in Japan, South Korea and the United States. The coronavirus that appeared last month, which is still poorly known, has prompted Beijing and other countries to take measures to stop its spread. While the fear of a mutation of the virus has been clearly expressed by the Chinese authorities, concern is mounting in Taiwan with the approach of the Chinese New Year and the return of thousands of Taiwanese settled in China. On the streets of Taipei, the number of masked faces is slightly increasing. On Tuesday, the Taiwanese authorities announced the discovery of the first case of infection with the mysterious virus of Chinese origin, a Taiwanese citizen who had just returned from the city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the epidemic.
