Press correspondent on appeal
On 4 May, Toufik de Planoise appeared before the Besançon Court of Appeal. He is defended by Fabien Stucklé. The verdict is expected on 22 June.
A rally was organised outside the court before the hearing.
In the first instance, he was convicted of "violence in a group" for acts that took place during a yellow waistcoat demonstration, when tensions were high.
At the time of the event, for which he was convicted, he was covering the movement for the media Factuel.info as a local press correspondent.
A drunken man standing in the path of the demonstration was approached by a Radio Bip reporter (Alex) offering him some physiological serum to relieve him of tear gas. He became very aggressive towards the reporter and several people, including Toufik, approached him to try to reason with the man. The man was uncontrollable and a few blows were exchanged.
The police only intervened after several minutes.
Toufik from Planoise (Factuel.info at the time) and Alex (RadioBip at the time) appeared in court for "reciprocal violence" on 10 March 2020. They were convicted and Alex did not appeal.
In a tribune common to both editorial offices, and signed by Edwy Plenel, Marie-Guite Dufay, Denis Robert, Barbara Romagnan, Berth, Anne Vignot, Hervé Kempf, Aurelié Trouvé, Maxime Renahy and many other organisations, it is requested that the prosecution be totally abandoned. Beyond the prosecution, this tribune points out that this trial is once again an attack on the freedom of the press. These independent editorial offices, with an editorial line that differs from that of many traditional media, are disturbing and this trial could be a way to undermine them.
