Cherry Blossoms by Damien Hirst
Damien Hirst is one of the most controversial and highly regarded artists in contemporary art.
From his famous formaldehyde shark - The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living - to his 1995 Turner Prize winning work of a cow and calf split in two, he is known to be a controversial artist who does not leave anyone indifferent.
He is also one of the most bankable artists, supported by Charles Saatchi at the beginning of his career, his works have broken sales records, his medicine cabinet - Lullaby Spring - was sold in 2007 for 19.2 million dollars.
At the Fondation Cartier he returns to painting, with these Cherry Blossoms, far from the animal corpses.
When a visitor to his studio asked him if he was in love with his paintings, he replied that he hoped they were a little more fucking aggressive than that, adding "but yes, I am in love, so maybe that too".
Cherry Blossoms is the Hirst's first museum exhibition in France.
