Le 26 décembre 2021 se déroule une compétition majeure sur l'île de Gorée : la Finale de la Coupe du Maire.
Le maire, Me Augustin Senghor, a sorti le grand jeu pour l'occasion. Les élections municipales ont lieu dans un mois et match est une vitrine de sa stature politique dans le football africain.
RELANCE AU 5E POTEAU
Les matches de foot sur l'île de Gorée se déroulent dans des conditions singulières : en plein milieu du terrain se trouve un grand baobab et une bâtisse ronge une partie du terrain. Les règles s'adaptes aux contraintes de l'espace de jeu. Les 16 joueurs de terrain peuvent utiliser les murs et le baobab.
UN MAIRE PAS COMME LES AUTRES
L'enjeu est de taille, le maire, Augustion Senghor est le président de la Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, vice-président de la Confédération Africaine de Football et membre de la Comission des Acteurs du Football de la FIFA. Il est, par ailleurs, le maire sortant de l'île de Gorée et candidat à sa réélection le 23 Janvier 2022.
La rencontre opposait les équipes «Amdy Shop» et «Camp Nou» et s'est soldée sur une victoire de l'équipe «Amdy Shop» par 3 buts à 1.

The stakes are high, the mayor, Augustion Senghor is the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, vice-president of the African Football Confederation and a member of the FIFA Committee of Football Players. He is, moreover, the outgoing mayor of the island of Goree and candidate for re-election on January 23, 2022.
The match was between the teams "Amdy Shop" and "Camp Nou" and ended with a victory for the team "Amdy Shop" by 3 goals to 1.
