D-CONSTRUCTION OF THE GENDER
Masculine/female
These two notions are of particular concern in a normative society that imposes, through advertising bludgeons and generalized discourse, a reassignment of sex to the disturbing and dangerous gender. It is this reminder of the normative order that prevents us from turning a blind eye to violence and the verbal and physical aggressions that result from it. Indeed, to approach the problems of gender means confronting the issues it raises when the omnipresence of these discourses is accompanied by sexist, transphobic, lesbosphobic and homophobic overtones.
Starting from the premise that we all have a share of femininity and masculinity, this photographic work addresses the theme of gender identities from the perspective of testimony and situationalization. It proposes portraits in diptychs where it is a question of apprehending, through the body, the real or fantasized situation of the expression of femininity and masculinity of the people participating in the project, and this, independently of their sexual orientation.
Inscribed in the current cultural and political context, it becomes a witness, a marker of an era and its evolutions, offering a diversity of points of view, observing how the subjects respond or not to clichés, stereotypes and injunctions, how they play or not on the recall to the normative order. It thus presents itself as a non-exhaustive panorama, a mirror, a prism of our society that questions us in the face of educational norms, social and cultural constructions that guide each being from birth according to his or her gender to enter into his or her rank.
It is therefore with irony, fun and sometimes difficulty that they have lent themselves to this game of exposing themselves by giving us their intimate definitions of masculinity and femininity at a given moment in their journey.
