Venice, the exodus of the serenissima.
At first sight the city of the doges appears calm and peaceful. Tourists are there, but on a human scale, without excess. In the bend of its narrow streets it is a pleasure to get lost, to hear singing Italian and to be surprised by a new canal in which the colored houses are reflected.
The usual crowd having disappeared from the city, its inhabitants are more visible. Since 1950 the population of Venice has been divided by 3. Every year it loses 1000 inhabitants. A suffering for the Venetians who do not imagine the city dispossessed of its souls that have made its greatness for centuries.
This series of images wants to retranscribe the atmosphere in "the most beautiful city in the world" at a pivotal period in its history.
