Epiphany is a Christian feast day that marks the Baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist in the Jordan River.
Russian Orthodox Church celebrates it on January 19th. People believe that on this day water becomes holy.
Russians all over the country cut holes in the ice of lakes and rivers and take dips in cold water - a ceremony believed to cleanse them of sin and heal their illnesses.
