Paysans
Peasantry
I am not of peasant origin. My mother looked after us. My father, a country doctor, left early in the morning to come back in the evening; sometimes we could hear it moving away in the night, plunging into the darkness, where the most isolated farm buildings stand. I grew up in the heart of a valley, carved by the river, with many barns. The streets, on which the heavy doors of the stables opened, were our territory, so that the figure of the peasant never ceased to inhabit this part of my life, to shape its landscapes. Twice a year, a cattle market was held, the opportunity to see the village attracting many customers: Curious in their Sunday best, breeders and horse dealers in dark clothes and long negotiations. This series, produced many years later in 2015, is an evocation of this.
