The temptation of violence - Algiers
The march of Friday, April 12, of protest against the current political power, knew for the first time a police repression of scale in Algiers. Confrontations between young demonstrators and police forces began on Didouche Mourad street, to dissipate at the entrance of the Bab el Oued neighborhood, after a strong peak of violence on the central squares of Maurice Audin and the Grande Poste. The reasons still seem unclear, while a few hours before, in the same places, the police had withdrawn under the applause and "Silmiya Silmiya" of the demonstrators. The orders seem to have been very different thereafter and mark the temptation of violence of the Algerian power. Many injured demonstrators and police are to be deplored. That same week, on Tuesday, the police had been working to forcefully dissipate the weekly student march. The next day, Wednesday, the streets were more filled with demonstrators to denounce this temptation of repression and force by the power.
