A Mayotte, le lavage du linge en rivière est une pratique courante aux conséquences environnementales désastreuses. En plus de polluer les rivières avec de la javel, elle entraîne la mort des poissons du lagon qui s'alimentent à partir de celles-ci.
In Mayotte, washing linen in the river is a common practice with disastrous environmental consequences. In addition to polluting the rivers with bleach, they cause the death of the lagoon fish that feed on them. Although washing the linen in the river is illegal, there are still a large number of washerwomen, for lack of alternatives. In fact, in the 101st French department, a third of the inhabitants still do not have access to running water according to the INSEE. This is why, Laurent Beaumont, president of the association Yes We Can Nette had the idea to develop with some friends a laundry solidarity in the commune of M'Tsapéré. The principle: to make washing machines available to the inhabitants in order to prevent them from polluting the river.
