TIME FOR SPACE
TIME FOR SPACE
Colargol lives high up in the cirque de Cilaos, at an altitude of around 1,200 metres in the heart of Réunion Island. Every Saturday morning, he sells lemons and oranges at the Saint-Leu market. During the week, he travels more than 36 km on foot, his small load of freshly picked fruit at arm's length, and follows the "420 bends" road with his wheelbarrow to get to the market in Saint-Pierre. "When I go to Saint-Pierre, I never know when I'm going to arrive, so I always plan a good day's walk ahead of me. Sometimes, travellers in small vans agree to drop me off on their way."
Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, between the Salazie and Mafate cirques dominated by the Piton des Neiges, the highest peak in the Indian Ocean, Colargol lives in a small house he built himself. A small dirt track leads to his vegetable garden, his kitchen, his henhouse and his cat. Colargol has a wide variety of vegetables, fruit and aromatic plants. "I don't need much more than that. Everything grows very quickly here. My small harvests allow me to eat well, look after myself and share with my friends".
That day, Franck, Monique, Laurent, Luciano and Adam came to visit her. They like to meet here at Colargol to cook, sing, dance and make music.
