Michele Rubirola announces his resignation
At the end of a tough election that saw many twists and turns, it was the Printemps Marseillais list that had won the city of Marseille from Jean Claude Gaudin after 25 years of government by the local right.
The Printemps Marseillais succeeded in uniting the forces of the left with Michele Rubirola at its head. On 4 July 2020, after an extraordinary municipal council, a majority in the city council was won in a hard-fought battle.
Since that date, the mayor of Marseille has been regularly criticised, both by the press and the opposition, for her lack of commitment in taking office.
Today, she is resigning in order to leave room at the head of the city for her young first deputy, Benoit Payan, and has chosen to become her first deputy in turn.
